![]() Some old stores are still there (Adidas, Lacoste, Aeropostale, Express, Eileen Fisher, Pink, Victoria's Secret, Lego, and others), some new ones open their doors to customers, pop-ups are emerging - food stands, kiosks, etc. Once a vibrant, always busy, always attractive and famous mall on N Michigan Avenue looks. Not only Macy's gone by now - dozens of other shops, restaurants, cafes, etc are no longer in Water Tower Place. The mall is there - the looks are different. It's not easy to evaluate Water Tower Place now, since the flagship store Macy's closed their business in the mall in Spring 2021. I could well imagine one spending several hours in Water Tower Place, and especially so, if they enjoy shopping. Besides the retail, there are dining options, as well, though I only was shopping, and for specific items, on this visit. With my wife’s makeup in hand, I was off to survey the Water Tower Place namesake buildings - one on either side of Michigan Ave.Įven if the weather had been great outside, Water Tower Place would still be a great indoor space to spend a few hours. Water Tower Place is a large shopping center, built close to the original Water Tower, which is probably the oldest building in downtown Chicago, and which holds historic significance due to the devastating Chicago Fire. On this day (really was in no urgent need to go back outside in the weather), I took the time to study this water feature - intriguing, for certain, and maybe I was able to pick up a few ideas for one of our water features back home, due for a remodel? Maybe I had been focused on going to a specific store in Water Tower Place, or just not looked in the right direction. One of the things, which I saw (how could I have missed this before?) was a stepped water feature, between the escalators, with interesting “tubes” of water between each level. While my wife was in meetings, I was tasked with picking up some makeup for her, and she knew that Macy’s carried this particular brand, so off to Water Tower Place I headed. On this visit, the weather was gloomy, cool, overcast with sporadic rain. In addition to the unparalleled shopping on Michigan Avenue, the Water Tower Campus offers numerous dining and entertainment options, including Navy Pier and Chicago's Millennium and Grant parks. Holy Name Cathedral and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago are also nearby. The campus is just a short walk from architectural landmarks such as the John Hancock Center, the Tribune Tower, and the Wrigley Building. ![]() The Water Tower Campus derives its name from the historic Chicago Water Tower, which survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
